Today Friday the 17th of February 2012 is Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s 31st birthday So I decided to do my favourite twelve roles of his career.
12. The Doctor/Rex – G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra
In one of the critical slammed film he plays the mysterious Doctor who is experimenting with Nanobytes to create super soldiers for lead villain. He evolves from soldier for the US military into super villain Cobra Commander the arch nemesis of G.I. Joes.
11. Jim Hawkins – Treasure Planet
Disney’s biggest animated flop was a space version of the Treasure Island book. Taking the lead voice role of Jim Hawkins as he travels through space with Cyborg John Silver looking for the Treasure Planet. With one of my favourite montage scenes in this is one of my favourite Disney films.
10. Bert Rodriquez – Elektra Luxx
In this small role as porn blogger Bert Rodriguez who follows the career of porn star Elektra Luxx, smaller support role that has some of the more memorable scenes in the film.
9. Arthur – Inception
Playing the safe partner of the lead Dom Cobb, Arthur is the one who keeps him grounded, There is one of the best fight scenes put on scene in a weightless hall way and the small funny moment between Arthur and Ariadne.
8. Tommy Solomon – 3rd Rock From The Sun
The youngest human form character of the aliens but in his alien form he is oldest and wises. Playing the child of the family gets all the generic storylines for a growing up kid but unlike having a wise father they both seem to learn together. Usually had all the best sarcastic lines.
7. Cameron James – 10 Things I Hate About You
Based loosely on the Shakespeare play ‘The Taming Of The Shrew’ Cameron is the one who is trying to get the sister of the ‘shrew’ but can only take the sister out when the older sister starts dating. Full of funny scenes through out and one of Heath Ledger’s early roles a good romantic comedy that all will have enjoyed.
6. Hesher – Hesher
Hesher the anti role model who takes an interest in a young boys life and seemingly helps him through a tough time after the loss of his mother. Foul mouthed who just tries to help but seems to cause more trouble in the process.
5. Chris Pratt – The Lookout
A promising hockey player before a tragic accident leaves him struggling to live just a normal life, he becomes a janitor and ends up involved in a bank heist, while struggling to cope with what he caused. A very strong performance about a man who regrets something that he will never be able to forgive himself for.
4. Morgan M, Morgensen – Morgan M. Morgansen’s Date With Destiny/ Morgan and Destiny’s Eleventeenth Date: The Zeppelin Zoo
This is one many people will not of heard of. In his free time Joseph runs a website called hitRECord.org where he encourages creation from filmmaker, artists, musicians. The Morgan movies are two, which he narcotised and starred in they are short animation made on nothing budgets that have a very good comical touch. Both are worth a watch.
3. Brendan – Brick
Overall Brick would be my favourite film he has starred in but not my favourite role, Brendan must go into an underworld drug scene to discover the truth about what happened to his old girlfriend. Stunning performance, which has help him score bigger and more recognised roles.
2. Tom – 500 Days Of Summer
When tom falls for Summer he thinks it will be happily ever after, but he was wrong following the duration of the before, during and after of his relationship with Summer. I like this role a lot because I can relate to much like a lot of guys who have seen it seeing all those ups and downs a relationship can bring to you.
1. Adam – 50/50
Following a young man who gets diagnosis with cancer and how the people react to the news in all different ways. This is my favourite role because it’s a character you really want to make it through and on paper he only has the 50/50 chance of doing so. Any performance that needs a box of tissues on hand is done correctly this one is done superbly.
If you thought these were great performances in 2012 alone he has
- The Dark Knight Rises playing John Blake
- Premium Rush and messenger getting chased around New York
- Looper taking the lead role opposite Bruce Willis in what has a Blade runner feel about it.
- Lincoln playing Robert Todd Lincoln directed by Steven Spielberg
- Djanjo Unchained playing Jano working with Quentin Tarantino.
