Actor Focus - Christian Bale

With The Dark Knight Rises coming out in cinemas this week it seem like a great chance to look at how Christian Bale came from Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales all the way to one of the go to guys in Hollywood.

One of his first big roles was in Steven Spielberg's 'Empire Of The Sun' in 1987 after this a series of small roles before his break out role in 2000. This was in American Psycho which remains to this day one of his greatest performances of his career. Following on from his he starred in couple of very different films, 'Reign of Fire' and 'Equilibrium'. What follows is one of the most committed performances given to Hollywood in 'The Machinist', Christian lost around 173lbs for this role which is meant to be a record weight lose for an actor.

After that he got the role in Christopher Nolan's 'Batman Begins' which he has to regain all his weight again. This role made him a bigger name and a man in demand. Even though a few of these were just routine films it wasn't long until another big opportunity came up and from a familiarly face. Christopher Nolan bought Bale a co-staring role in 'The Prestige' Opposite Hugh Jackman in a magician rival film that just keeps giving as the story unfolds.

This all led to what happened in 2008. 'The Dark Knight', following the death of Heath Ledger after giving a stunning performance which later won him an Oscar as the Joker the film broke all sorts of records and pushed Bale to super stardom. With this franchise under his belt he tried his hand in the Terminator franchise with 'Terminator Salvation' where he plays the iconic John Connor, but after being recorded have a rant about the director of photography was the pressure getting to him. the answer was no when Bale went on to win his very own Oscar for a supporting role in 'The Fighter'.

With a career that seems to be going from strength to strength and possible the greatest superhero film ever made out Friday 'The Dark Knight Rises' can Christian continue to deliver high rating performances even though the roles are not your usual first choices.
