The Guard (2011)

The Guard (2011)

Director: John Michael McDonagh
Writer: John Michael McDonagh (Screenplay
Starring: Brendon Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham

Story:
An unconventional cop based in an Irish small-town village, works with an FBI agent to track down and uncover an international drug ring.

Verdict:
Brendon Gleeson is on top form starring as a rude, racist, rule-breaking Irish cop in this brilliant comedy. Gleeson stars as an Irsih cop that whimsically drifts through his mundane job with no disregard for anyone else, whether that be stealing drugs from a dead man's possession, contaminating crime scenes or even making racist remarks towards FBI agents, eventually having to team up with said FBI agent to uncover an international drug ring being led by Mark Strong in a role he seems to call his own nowadays. Cheadle and Gleeson play well off each other although the storyline can seem a bit farfetched to really ground this movie, instead you find yourself having to suspend some disbelief to fully enjoy the film.

Not recommended for the easily offended, and not quite on par with In Bruges but a strong film none-the-less.

Ozzy's Rating - 8/10
