Thursday Movie Picks - All in the Family Edition: Father-Son Relationships

This weeks Thursday Picks theme is All in the Family Edition: Father-Son Relationship. A tough theme which had me racking my brains but after some thought here are my top 3 -

Big Fish

Big Fish follows the story of a son whose father is dying and he wants to learn as much about his dad as possible. Using the stories he has heard from his father over many years, he goes about recreating his dad's life and learns a lot more about his dad's triumphs and failures.

Finding Nemo

Ok Finding Nemo probably isn't one of the first films to spring to mind for this genre being about fish but still they are father and son. Nemo is captured from his home in the Great Barrier Reef and is taken to Sydney to be a little girls pet. His dad with the help of some outrageous characters goes on an epic adventure to rescue his son.

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade

When Dr. Henry Jones Sr. suddenly goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, eminent archaeologist Indiana Jones must follow in his father's footsteps and stop the Nazis.

  1. All three are great films. And yeah, Finding Nemo is absolutely one of the first movies I thought of for this theme. Great picks!

  2. Both Connery and Ford make for an amusing pair in, for me, the second best film of the Indiana Jones Franchise.Years since I've seen it, however. Haven't seen the other two.

  3. Big Fish is the ultimate father son film! That ending always gets me...

  4. I never did see Big Fish (at least not in full), but Finding Nemo and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade were movies I'd considered for my list. Ultimately, I didn't put them on because I figured they would be too obvious, and that somebody else would put them on their own list at some point.
